MERCEDES-BENZ W154/163

 

The   mighty Mercedes-Benz W154/W163 was the most successful Grand Prix car in the last two years before the beginning of World War II making Grand Prix Racing stop for many years. The W154/W163 has got a 12 cylinder engine of 2960 cc boosted by a compressor to bring it up to 485 bhp.   Briton Dick Seaman won the 1938 German Grand Prix at the Nuerburgring-Nordschleife. Germany`s most famous Grand Prix driver ever, Rudolf Caracciola, became European Champion the same year.  In 1939 Hermann Lang won the German Grand Prix and the Eifel Race at the Nuerburgring and became the last European Champion in history. After the war the W154/W163 returned to the tracks in Latin with Fangio, Lang and Kling to prepare Mercedes-Benz`s return to Grand Prix Racing in 1954 becoming an enormous success.
